About

As an Italian native, I join the Department of French, Hispanic and Italian Studies at UBC, as a qualified teacher of Italian  to speakers of other languages; I have been lecturing Italian as an L2 at the University of Bologna, for many years now.

In the past two years, I have also become an Associate Lecturer of Italian at Birkbeck, University of London.
In 2017 I was awarded a position in the United States as a Fulbright Visiting Distinguished Lecturer at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, USA, where I taught introductory Italian language courses and a course on “The Culture of Italian American Emigration”.

Interests

Since 2020 I have been the co-founder of Strade Dorate, “Osservatorio di Letteratura e Cultura Italo Americana”. Strade Dorate originated from the idea of collecting and reuniting the production of the Italian- American diaspora in one portal and making it available to the Italian public. Interviews, narrative and poetry reviews, writers portray and unpublished works are released weekly with the final goal of making the Italian readers aware of an unknown and still neglected page of our national culture.

My area of expertise includes the literary production of the Italian-American diaspora and its related themes of cultural conflict, crossings, and ethnic identity formation. It extends onto the literary representations of gender violence, such as rape or female discrimination, as seen in the Italian American literary tradition. Moreover, my academic interest covers the linguistic aspects that feature the process of learning Italian as an L2 and as an LS, such as the teaching of phonology and phonetics, the use of educational technologies, the employment of co-operational strategies, and the application of narrative in language courses.

  • “Unsafe Bodies. A Kleinian Study of patriarchy and violence in Italian American female-authored writing” (2020-2025)
