In her role as French Language Program Director, Caroline’s contribution to the Department of French, Hispanic and Italian Studies (FHIS) is to lead the French language Program, to develop and offer the French Go Global Seminar (La représentation de Lyon dans la littérature), and to enhance the visibility of the francophone initiatives offered in the department.  She is also in charge of the TA training  and Mentoring Committee.

In her role, Caroline is dedicated to enhancing the teaching and learning experience of the undergraduate students and graduate students as TAs. She is one of the recipient of the Student as Partners new funding available at UBC for 2022-2023. Her funded project consists of developing an online reading-writing module for the beginners’ courses in partnership with two extremely dedicated undergraduate students and former FREN 101-102 alumni, Savindya Mudadeniya and Shreya Diwan.

Current projects

Caroline is currently developing a textbook series (co-author) that adapts the Common European Reference of Languages to the diversity of the francophone communities of Canada, including the indigenous francophone communities (Canadian Scholars’ Press 2023-2026). She is also working on developing an experiential learning course for undergraduate students interested in interacting with the diversity of the francophone communities in Canada.

Challenging norms and stereotypes is always on her to-do list. On that aspect, she is currently interested in the representation of gender in the French language, especially in the literary work of Anne Garréta.
