On December 3, 2021, the Cultural Club of UBC’s Department of French, Hispanic and Italian Studies (FHIS) held a cross-cultural education event titled “Wine is Culture: A Cross-Cultural Approach“.

Sommelière Élise Trébuchon presents about the use of multiple senses to appreciate the complexity of each wine.
Led by professional sommelière Élise Trébuchon, who leads wine tasting events in the Okanagan Valley, students explored the similarities and differences surrounding the production and culture of wine in various regions of the Romance language-speaking world.

Presentation on the geographic location in which each wine was produced, in addition to handouts of wine tasting lexicon in French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.
Participants were equipped with the multisensory tasting skills needed to appreciate the complexity of each wine, while acquiring new wine tasting vocabulary in French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese to describe their experiences in these languages. They were also educated on the geographic locations in which each wine was created, along with unique production processes involved.
