We are very pleased to announce the release of Fricciones, a collection of short stories by Gabriel Saldías Rossel (postdoctoral fellow, FHIS). As its title suggests, the stories evolve around the idea of uncomfortable contact. Written with a caustic prose filled with black humor, irony and detachment, the nightmarish scenarios presented in these short stories joyfully play with the painful past and the disappointment for the future of Chile and Latin America, mocking and lamenting, at the same time, the unavoidable misery brought about by the human experience presented in its pages.
About the author: Gabriel Saldías Rossel is a Doctor in Comparative Literature and Literary Theory. He obtained his Bachelor degree in Hispanic Letters and a Master in Hispano-American Literature at the Pontificia Universidad Católica of Chile. After having been awarded funding by the Chilean state through its national scolarship and fellowship program (Becas Chile), he pursued his doctoral studies at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, in Spain. After this, he was awarded a second fellowship, this time to pursue research as Postdoctoral Fellow at the French, Italian and Hispanic Studies department at UBC, under the supervision of Rita De Grandis. His areas of interest include: utopian studies and utopianism, current Southern Cone literature (Chile and Argentina), post-dictatorship cultural productions, literary theory and science fiction literature.
