Announcing the loss of Professor Emeritus Dominique Baudouin

Flag lowered at UBC campus in remembrance of those who have passed away.

It is with sadness that we learned that Professor Emeritus Dominique Baudouin passed away on October 29, 2020 at Crofton Manor in Vancouver.

Dominique Baudouin, L ès L, DES, Agrégé des Lettres Classiques, began his career teaching in French lycées in Le Havre, and at the Lycée secondaire du Bardo in Tunis, before obtaining a Fullbright exchange scholarship to Oberlin College. He subsequently taught at the University of Oregon in Eugene, before joining the Department of French at UBC in 1962.

Professor Baudouin, who retired from the Department of French in 1991, was a specialist in twentieth-century French literature. His publications include studies on Dada and the Surrealists, Albert Camus and Paul Éluard, among others.

In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in twentieth-century drama, novel and poetry, he also taught the graduate seminar (FREN 500) on Methods of Bibliography and Literary Criticism.

In his younger years, he was an avid alpinist and skier. Professor Baudouin continued hiking well into his retirement years.

We extend our condolences and best wishes to his family and friends. Dominique Baudouin will be missed by past and present colleagues and by all the students who have worked and studied with him throughout his career.
