Hosted by the Department of French, Hispanic and Italian Studies (FHIS Cultural Club)
Join us for a free Afro-Latin dance lesson on various styles from the Hispanic, Francophone and Lusophone worlds, while refreshing yourself with delicious Italian food!
The dance lesson will be taught by Cuban instructor Julio Montero, a former student of French and Spanish Studies at UBC. The lesson will be followed by an informal celebration with food and drinks to wrap up the academic year.
No previous dance experience is required!
All members of the UBC community鈥攁cross all languages and programs鈥攁re welcome to attend.
Program:
- A video presentation of the Afro-Latin dance community in Vancouver and why they are using dance as a means of cultural expression
- A lesson on the dance styles of salsa, bachata, reggaet贸n, merengue, and zouk
- An opportunity to practice what you learned or simply enjoy some Afro-Latin music
- An overview of dance events in Vancouver for you to continue learning, if you are interested
- Food and drinks to celebrate the end of the academic year!
Remember to bring water, as you might just break a sweat! 馃槈
