UBC and Portugal’s Camões Institute Celebrate Renewal of Partnership

Dr. Clare Haru Crowston, Dean of Arts, and João Paulo Costa, Consul General of Portugal in Vancouver, sign the renewal of UBC’s partnership with Portugal’s Camões Institute of Language and Cooperation, with Dr. Anne Salamon, Head of the Department of French, Hispanic and Italian Studies, in attendance.

We are delighted to announce the formal renewal of UBC’s partnership with the Camões Institute of Language and Cooperation (Camões, I.P.), reaffirming our shared dedication to cultural collaboration and academic enrichment.

Since our first agreement in 2023, this partnership has enriched the Department of French, Hispanic and Italian Studies (FHIS) by supporting a visiting lectureship in Portuguese Language and Culture, co-sponsored by the Camões Institute and the Faculty of Arts.

We’re deeply grateful for the continued generosity of the Camões Institute. This renewed collaboration enables our students to further engage with the linguistic richness and cultural diversity of the Lusophone world through expanded course offerings, cultural programming, and academic guidance.

Together, we celebrate the vitality that this partnership brings to our campus community and the vibrant connections it fosters between Canada and the Lusophone world. We look forward with pride to continuing this journey—cultivating global awareness and scholarly exploration through language, literature, and culture.
