RMST_V 362: The Brazilian Amazon

This course deals with the complexity and diversity of the Brazilian Amazon, engaging in a variety of topics of interdisciplinary nature, with focus on its peoples, literatures and cultures, and through the use of various genres. You will study topics like the heterogeneity of the Indigenous cultures, their resilience and resistance, the role of caboclos and Afro-Amazonian peoples, musical manifestations, destructive and sustainable economic development and many other aspects in order to develop an understanding of the region that goes beyond the simplistic portrayal of it as a vast rainforest with an incredible biological diversity at the brink of destruction.
