DATE
Wednesday March 11, 2026
TIME
3:00 PM - 4:30 PM

Presented by Marianne Legault, Associate Professor, Department of French, Languages and World Literatures (UBC Okanagan), and Ramine Adl, Associate Professor, Department of French, Languages and World Literatures (UBC Okanagan)

About the talk:

Marianne Legault’s translation and Ramine Adl’s edition of Isaac de Benserade’s play, Iphis et Iante (1634), is one of the latest additions to the Modern Language Association of America Series Texts and Translations series. Legault and Adl will situate Benserade’s play, based on Ovid’s Metamorphoses, within the history of early modern female same-sex love in French literature. At the same time, they will discuss what it means to translate and edit a 17th-century comedy, written in French alexandrines (12-syllable lines), for a 21st-century readership comprised of university students and the general public.

The event will be held in English.
