What are genres, and why do they matter? What can they teach us about the way our mind works? How do genres appear and differentiate in periods of early literary emergence? Patrick Moran will talk about how he blends cognitive studies and material philology in his upcoming book on the emergence of genre in the 11th-12th-c. French-speaking world.
