The First Nations House of Learning, Institute for Critical Indigenous Studies, and Language Sciences Initiative invites the UBC community to a free virtual screening of the documentary “Call Me Human”, followed by an online Q&A with the film’s subject, Innu poet Joséphine Bacon, and director Kim O’Bomsawin, with discussant UBC Assistant Professor in Indigenous Creative Writing Billy-Ray Belcourt. The virtual event will take place on Friday, February 5th from 2:00-3:00 pm.
About the film:
When elders leave us, a link to the past vanishes along with them. Innu writer Joséphine Bacon exemplifies a generation that is bearing witness to a time that will soon have passed away. With charm and diplomacy, she leads a charge against the loss of a language, a culture, and its traditions. Her journey is documented by Kim O’Bomsawin in the film, Call Me Human (2020).
