Spanish for Community—a FHIS Community Engaged Learning initiative—invites you to attend a virtual screening and panel discussion with Catalina Arroyave Restrepo, director of Days of The Whale. Joining the discussion will be Colombian writer and muralist Santiago Rodas, and UBC faculty members Jon Beasley-Murray, Alessandra Santos and María Adelaida Escobar Trujillo.
The event is free and open to the public. The film screening will be in Spanish with English subtitles. The panel discussion will also be held in English and Spanish.

Cristina and Simon are two young graffiti artists who paint the city that they live in, Medellín. Their restless spirit leads them to defy a criminal gang when they decide to paint a mural over a threat written in a wall. The love that unites them, their friendship with other artists at La selva- an old house they use as a refuge- and familiar tensions, come together to tell a story were the powerful strength of youth faces fear, violence and the difficulties of growing up.
Panelists
- Catalina Arroyave Restrepo is a Colombian screenwriter, director, actor trainer and teacher. She is the co-founder of Rara Colectivo Audiovisual, a film project management company based in Medellin, Colombia.
- Santiago Rodas Quintero is a Colombian writer, muralist, and “grafitero.” He has published several books such as Gestual (2014), Trampas tropicales (2015), and Plantas de sombra (2018). Rodas has participated in different urban art festivals in Colombia and Mexico.
