SPAN102

Beginners Spanish II

Spanish 102 builds upon the skills acquired in Spanish 101.  It involves students in interactive communication while introducing them to language structures of increased complexity.  Students report and describe past events and express subjunctive notions such as volition and emotion within the context of common tasks (planeando vacaciones, pidiendo información, buscando vivienda, haciendo las compras, etc.).  The course includes group interaction and grammatical explanations.

Evaluation is based on demonstrated proficiency in the use of pertinent vocabulary and structures by means of self-expression (oral and written) and functional translation. The course also attempts to promote cultural awareness.

Required text and Online Workbook:
¿Cómo se dice...?  UBC Custom Edition (10th ed.), with eSAM\iLrn online workbook, Jarvis, Heinle 2013.

Prerequisite: SPAN 101 or equivalent

Note:
Spanish 102 is a 3-credit course.  It is absolutely not recommended that students with Grade 11 Spanish take Spanish 102 without taking Spanish 101 first.

Language of instruction: Spanish and English
